Simulation - the Matrix's last chance at reality?
– With the creation of computers, it became possible to simulate almost any reality. The limitations here can only stem from our imagination or fantasy, which in itself is, in principle, not limited by anything. Computer technologies today are the foundation, the tool, on which all old, new, and the latest research of humanity is built, absolutely in all fields of activity.
– Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, responding to journalists’ questions in 2016, stated that the probability of our world being real is one in a billion. However, he did not provide convincing evidence. Musk, like other proponents of this theory, claims that we are all entirely simulated beings: streams of information in some giant computer, similar to characters in a video game. Our brain is also a simulation, reacting to artificial stimuli. Curiously, in this scenario, there is no matrix to escape from: our entire life is the matrix, beyond which existence is simply impossible.
– In principle, all hypotheses of this kind always keep pace with the times. Well, if there were no computers, the cause of the simulation could be, say, artificial intelligence, dreams, or some rays based on americium-242 (about the rays, I’m just speculating). In general, anything at all. So, it is quite natural that today it is computer technologies that are at the forefront of everything that can and cannot be in our, far from paradise, but so curious to explore reality.
– But is everything really as Musk claims? Are we really just bits: streams of information, ones and zeros, meaningless small symbols that, together, form an unimaginably large computer? If we speak figuratively, then yes, undoubtedly: all people are cells and batteries, existing in some environment (the Matrix) and whose movement is chaotic until they realize their true position in the System and break free from its confines.
– Well, okay. Let’s assume we are all inside an unimaginably vast, multidimensional simulation. What then? And then, as some researchers suggest, everything will depend on the quality of the simulation.
“It would be most logical to try to find errors in the program, similar to those that revealed the artificial nature of the real world in the film ‘The Matrix’. For example, we might discover contradictions in the laws of physics. But, according to some scientists, even without all the aforementioned, there are enough reasons to believe that humanity is inside a giant simulation projector.
For example, our Universe looks as if it was artificially constructed. And also that the values of fundamental physical constants are suspiciously perfect for the emergence of life in the Universe: it may create the impression that they were deliberately set. Even small changes in these values would lead to the loss of atomic stability or the impossibility of star formation” (from bbc.com).
– The Matrix is a misunderstanding, an error in the program code that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. For true life and true freedom are out there somewhere: far beyond the System, on a planet called “New World”.
